FLIGHT TRAINING

Private Pilot

General Requirements

  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
  • Hold a current medical certificate
  • Pass the knowledge test
  • Pass the practical test

Aeronautical Experience Requirements

  • 40 hours of flight time in an airplane
    • 20 hours of instructional flight with an authorized flight instructor(CFI)
      • 3 hours of cross-country flight training
      • 3 hours of night flight training
        • One cross-country flight of over 100nm total distance
        • 10 takeoffs and 10 landings to a full stop
      • 3 hours of flight training on the control and maneuvering of an airplane by solely by reference to instruments
      • 3 hours of instructional flight for the test preparation within 2 calendar months before the date of the practical test
    • 10 hours of solo flight training
      • 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop at an airport with an operating control tower
      • 5 hours of solo cross-country time
        • One solo cross-country flight of 150nm total distance with full stop landings at 3 points and one segment of at least 50nm between takeoff and landing locations

Instrument Pilot

General Requirements

  • Hold at least a private pilot certificate
  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
  • Hold a current medical certificate
  • Pass the knowledge test
  • Pass the practical test

Aeronautical Experience Requirements

  • 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time
    • 15 hours of instructional flight with an authorized flight instructor(CFII)
      • 3 hours of instructional flight for the test preparation within 2 calendar months before the date of the practical test
      • One cross country-flight under IFR flight plan
        • A flight of 250NM along airways
        • An instrument approach at each airport
        • 3 different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems
    • 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command
      • At least 10 hours of flight time must have been in an airplane

Commercial Pilot

General Requirements

  • Hold at least a private pilot certificate
  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
  • Hold a current medical certificate
  • Pass the knowledge test
  • Pass the practical test

Aeronautical Experience Requirements

Single Engine Initial

  • 250 hours of flight time
    • 100 hours of pilot-in-command time
      • At least 50 hours in airplanes
      • 50 hours in cross-country flight
    • 20 hours of flight training with an authorized instructor(CFI)
      • 10 hours of simulated instrument training time
      • 10 hours of training in a complex airplane
      • One 2-hour daytime cross-country flight of more than 100nm
      • One 2-hour night time cross-country flight of more than 100nm
      • 3 hours of instructional flight for the test preparation within 2 calendar months before the date of the practical test
    • 10 hours of solo flight time that include:
      • One cross-country flight of not less than 300nm total distance, with landings at a minimum of three points, one of which is a straight-line distance of at least 250nm from the original departure point
      • 5 hours in night VFR conditions with 10 takeoffs and 10 landings at an airport with an operating control tower

Multi Engine Initial

  • 250 hours of flight time
    • 100 hours of pilot-in-command time
      • At least 50 hours in airplanes
      • 50 hours in cross-country flight
    • 20 hours of flight training with an authorized instructor(CFI)
      • 10 hours of simulated instrument training time
        • At least 5 hours must be in a multi-engine airplane
      • 10 hours of training in a complex airplane
      • One 2-hour daytime cross-country flight of more than 100nm
      • One 2-hour night time cross-country flight of more than 100nm
      • 3 hours of instructional flight for the test preparation within 2 calendar months before the date of the practical test
    • 10 hours of solo flight time that include:
      • One cross-country flight of not less than 300nm total distance, with landings at a minimum of three points, one of which is a straight-line distance of at least 250nm from the original departure point
      • 5 hours in night VFR conditions with 10 takeoffs and 10 landings at an airport with an operating control tower
